Silence in Stoneleigh: Raptors lose 1-4

Raptors U10 v Stoneleigh Athletic
Stoneleigh-St George’s Field.

Silence was not golden for the Raptors today. The scoreline does not tell the full story as the Raptors created multiple chances in this game but incredibly only found the back of the net once! We lost this game in the first half when Stoneleigh appeared to react quicker to loose balls and seemed more alert and energetic. Our attacking play was often very good and we had several shots saved by a very good Stoneleigh goalkeeper.

The game was marked by an unusual but positive FA initiative of ‘Silent Weekend’ which involves spectators and coaches having minimal verbal contact with players to promote a positive and pressure free environment. This was observed by the Teddington parents (and coaches) so thanks to the traveling parents for your support wth this.

The Raptors started the game the stronger team with the lions share of possession and we created several good changes after some good passing moves. Stoneleigh scored against the run of play after ten minutes. We then conceded two more in quick succession. As a collective we did not react quick enough to the loose balls and the Stoneleigh team seemed to want it more!

Lennon Chamlers scored the Raptors only goal of the game at the end of the first half. Lennon broke free of the defence using his pace. His initial shot was saved by the opposition goaly but Lennon reacted quickly and smashed in the rebound.

The second half was much better.
Daniel Jolly had a very good second half
making several purposeful runs on goal and unleashing a couple of powerful long range shots! Hayden Elliot also worked very hard in defence.

Man of the match went to Finlay Simms who made several decisive tackles and made some positive runs down the left wing.

On to the next game.
