Raptors unlucky in close contest with Molesey

Molesey Panthers U10 v. Teddington Raptors

3 - 2

East Molesey the Wilderness.

Lady Luck went for a weekend break today as the Raptors were so unlucky not to have come away with a result. This game had it all; goals, plenty of action and a contraversial disallowed goal!

The Raptors dominated the first quarter of the game with some great pressing and passing. Daniel Jolly looked commanding in centre midfield with some well placed passes. The first goal came after Fin Simms picked up the ball in a deep midfield position and drove purposely forwards before releasing Lennon Chalmers whose shot was too powerful for the Molesey goalie to keep out.

The Molesey team grew with confidence in the second quarter and scored a deserved equaliser.

The Raptors started the second half the stronger team and enjoyed the lions share of possession but Molesey scored against the run of play to go 2-1 up.

Cormac Sims picked up the ball in defence and drove through the heart of the Molesey midfield before picking out Zac Lewis with a well weighted pass. Zac took one touch before releasing a sweetly struck shot into the top right hand corner of the goal. The goalie managed to get two hands to it, but such was the quality of Zacs strike the ball ended up in the back of the net!

Then the moment of high drama! Lennon picked up the ball on the right hand side of the pitch and homed in on goal. His low powerful shot was initially saved but then bobbled over the goalies hands and crossed the line BUT the goalie clawed the ball back into play. The referee who to be fair actually had a very good game, was unable to award the goal as the ball was not in his line of sight. Where was VAR when we needed it most?

With a cruel twist of fate, Molesey scored almost immediately after the incident to make it 3-2 to the home team.

Despite the Raptors best efforts we were unable to grab an equaliser. We were proud of the boys effort and commitment today and at times played some nice football.

Man of the match went to Zac Lewis who put in a great shift on the right hand side of midfield. Zac hit several sweetly hit shots and his efforts were rewarded with a well deserved goal.
