Norbury Rising Stars v. Teddington Raptors U10
3 - 4
Norbury Primary School
The Raptors should be proud of themselves today after this incredible team effort to record our first win in our new division. The good passing and movement off the ball returned and we showed a gritty steely determination to hold on to our narrow lead in the second half.
The first half started in unusual
circumstances as the opposition only had six players as their seventh player was running late. The Raptors pressed home the advantage and used the extra space to great advantage, going 2-0 up in the first ten minutes, Lennon Chalmers scoring both goals. Cormac Sims was outstanding in central midfield, driving forwards with the ball and tracking back in defence!
Half time saw the arrival of the oppositions 7th player and the match developed into a much more even contest. The Raptors managed to grab an early third goal through Lennon for his hatrick. Credit is due to the opposition who clawed their way back into the game in the second half. They were a big strong physical team who were determined to get back into the game and before long the they had equalised to make it 3-3. The last ten minutes was a dramatic tense ‘backs to the wall’ affair as both teams went for the jugular.
Cormac came close to scoring the winning goal with a long range effort that hit the cross bar and Daniel Jolly made several great saves to keep us in the game.
Finally it was Lennon again who scored his fourth goal with a speculative long range low drive that beat the goaly at the near post to win us the game.
There were several contenders for the man of the match today but the award went to Tom Mullins. Tom was asked to play in an unfamiliar defensive role. Tom was very disciplined, staying in position and his distribution out of defence was excellent. Then in the second half he put in a tenacious battling display in left midfield.
Overall a great team effort from the boys today.
