Leatherhead Colts v. Teddington Athletic 'Giants'
0 - 7
Saturday 25 November 2017
The Giants put in their best performance of the season with a resounding 7-0 victory over Leatherhead Colts on a chilly Saturday morning in the Surrey Hills. This was the Giants third win in a row and they finish November unbeaten after successive victories over Hook and Chessington.
In a week when the Chancellor looked to technology to boost the gloomy outlook, technology was almost the Giants downfall. All the talk through the week was on whether the boys would have the right boots to play on the Astroturf pitch but it was sat nav that nearly felled the Giants.
With kick off imminent half our team were driving up a dead end on the wrong side of the River Mole. Undeterred the team attacked from the off with captain for the day, Eli, charging through to score with the Giants first attack inside the opening minute of the game.
Jake ‘Vardy’ Wright followed up his recent impressive form scoring direct from a free kick two minutes later, the ball bouncing in off the inside of the post after a cracking shot from a narrow angle. Jake followed this goal with two further strikes in the first ten minutes of the game, to give him a hat-trick and the Giants a four goal lead. That gives Jake eleven goals in three games after his two against Chessington and six against Hook.
But today manager Dan Crosby will have been most impressed by the quality of the team performance. Goalkeepers Louie in the first half and Tom in the second both kept clean sheets and a tigerish display from the defence and midfield, with Eli, Julius and Charlie pressing and tackling throughout, meant that the Colts never looked like scoring and the Giants dominated the game.
Further goals from Jonty, his first of the season, in the second quarter, and from Louie and Jake in the second half secured a resounding 7-0 victory.
