Cracking display breaks Nutfield’s resistance

Nutfield v. Giants

4 - 7

2nd December 2017

The Giants returned to the Surrey Hills for a second weekend in succession and once more scored seven in a hard fought victory over a spirited Nutfield side.

Learning from last weeks navigational challenges, the team arrived on time, only to find that the pitch had been double booked. Shooting practice led by assistant manager Tim Wright however served the team well and once the match did start, an hour behind schedule, the Giants were clinical in front of goal.

After a tight first five minutes Jake broke the deadlock with a quick brace and Julius followed this up with a third to give the giants a three goal lead. This was reward for a hard working and energetic start with the whole team pressing their opponents and giving them little time on the ball.

Nutfield, and their No 5 in particular, were a constant threat and they pulled a goal back before half-time following a lapse in concentration in the Giants defence.

The three goal advantage was restored early in the second half when Jake struck again for his hat trick. At 4-1 it looked like the Giants were cruising for another comfortable victory but Nutfield had other ideas and fought back with two quick goals to bring the score back to 4-3. The Giants restored their two goal advantage when Julius netted again only to be pegged back once more by Nutfield’s No 5 who grabbed his fourth of the game to make it 5-4. The tension was increasing on the touchline but the Giants were not going to let this go and Julius broke through the Nutfield defence once again to strike high in the net for his hat trick. This was fine reward for an excellent performance.

Jake added a further goal in the final minute to ensure that the team scored seven for the third game running.
